MASTER ENGLISH SENTENCES WITH S+V (1) : verbs without nouns behind (intransitive verbs)

This is the first lesson of 'MASTER ENGLISH SENTENCE WITH S+V' series. With one sentence pattern, we can build English sentences from simple to complex ones. In this way, creating correct English sentences will never be a dream.

The key sentence pattern we will need is 'subject' and 'action or state'. SUBJECT (S) means someone or something and it is usually the element, NOUN (N). There are other possible elements for S, and this topic is included in this S+V series. ACTION or STATE always needs the element, VERB (V). Within S+V, the other two elements, ADJECTIVE (ADJ) and ADVERB (ADV), are often added to give more information. ADJ is used to describe N. ADV emphasizes V or ACTION. Before or after a sentence, ADV can also be placed to enrich the whole SENTENCE. Both ADJ and ADV are possible to appear everywhere in a sentence as long as they follow N and V, and related rules will be discussed in other posts.

The examples below show how a sentence can be built with the two elements: N and V, following the pattern: S+V. You will not only learn the pattern from those example sentences but also learn vocabulary of different levels, from low to high. Learners of various levels can choose the examples right for you.

-S + V: My guests + will drink. [N: my guests, V: will drink]

-S + V: He + will die. [N: he, V: will die]

-S + V: The price + will increase. [N: the price, V: will increase]

-S + V: The patient + will survive. [N: the patient, V: will survive]

-S + V: The walls + will crack. [N: the walls, V: will crack]

[Reminder] Watch the video before starting reading the text and you can see all the pictures together if you click on one of them! You can also use the 'Translate' tool on the blog to help you understand the text. What's better, all the key vocabulary in my examples ranges from elementary to advanced levels (CEFR: A1~C2 / IELTS: 1~9) so you will learn a lot of English words if you keep studying each lesson. You will also benefit more if you use a dictionary to help you. Finally, don't forget to use English in daily life so all the grammar/vocabulary can be stored in your mind easier. While using this language, you are also learning from others and observing when is the appropriate context for different usages.
