MASTER ENGLISH SENTENCES WITH S+V (2) : verbs as subjects & be verbs with nouns or adjectives

Here we continue 'MASTER ENGLISH SENTENCE WITH S+V' series. In the second lesson we will build more sentences from the basic pattern, S+V. In this pattern, there are two parts, SUBJECT and ACTION/STATE with four elements, NOUN, VERB, ADJ and ADV. The first point we will focus on is a different form of SUBJECT. The element, VERB, can be used in the subject part with 'ing' added. The second thing that will be discussed is BE verb in action/state part. BE verb comes with NOUN or ADJ.

Let's apply the concept to sentences and the vocabulary used in my examples ranges from low to high level so please choose those that are right for your level. If you absorb them all, you will learn a lot of vocabulary with time.

1. S (Ving.....) + V (BE+N):

Finishing the work + is her goal.

Sharing a room + is his idea.

Decorating the house + is fun.

Profiling those criminals + is your job.

Misjudging the situation + is my mistake.

2. S (Ving.....) + V (BE+ADJ):

Changing lifestyles + is difficult.

Negotiating the deal + is critical.

Balancing work and family + is necessary.

Manipulating the media + is wrong.

Screeching + is unpleasant.

Following the pattern, try creating your own sentences!

[Reminder] Watch the video before starting reading the text and you can see all the pictures together if you click on one of them! You can also use the 'Translate' tool on the blog to help you understand the text. What's better, all the key vocabulary in my examples ranges from elementary to advanced levels (CEFR: A1~C2 / IELTS: 1~9) so you will learn a lot of English words if you keep studying each lesson. You will also benefit more if you use a dictionary to help you. Finally, don't forget to use English in daily life so all the grammar/vocabulary can be stored in your mind easier. While using this language, you are also learning from others and observing when is the appropriate context for different usages.
